COLT 1861 NAVY REVOLVER - Lot #4459

This is a very fine condition 1861 Colt Navy with Military finish in the 9XX serial number range. It is almost certain that this Navy will letter to the US government as many in this early range went to both Army and Navy but lack inspector marks. Being extremely rare, this example shows over 50% original Military style blue to its barrel, slightest traces of faded case colors on its frame and full, oil-finished grips (Not varnished, and they shouldn't be). The balance of metal parts show an absolutely untouched brown patina that is gorgeous and it shows most of a lightly rolled cylinder scene. The action, edges and markings are nearly crisp as new. This gun shows very little use as it has all 6 cylinder pins standing perfectly (a sign that this gun was probably a Navy issue). The 1861 Navy was the slightly lighter successor to the popular 1851Colt Navy Revolver. Roughly 39,000 were produced by Colt and this streamlined version of the Colt Navy is considered by many collectors to be the most attractive and graceful of all the Colt percussion models.
