ANTIQUE KENTUCKY RIFLE - Lot #4879

This is a decent old rifle that has never been abused other than a coat of varnish added to the stock probably no more than 30 - 40 years ago. It does have a crack through the lock area that may have been glued but I can't tell due to the heavy varnish in that area. The crack seems to be sound and I can find no other damage or repair to the wood. It has a 40" barrel of 34 caliber that has been cleaned to bright. It is highly decorated with plain, German silver inlays on both sides of the stock with an elaborately pierced wear-plate on the forward the lock area and a patch-box on each side of the butt, one obviously for patches and the other for caps. It appears to be a Pennsylvania, Ohio or Indiana made gun from the 1840 - 1850 period.
