CIVIL WAR POCKET WATCH, INSCRIBED, IDENTIFIED - Lot #4580

This is a beautiful, 18K Gold inscribed Pocket Watch, identified to a Veteran of The Battle of Gettysburg. This is a post-war, matter-of-fact inscription that describes the use of the watch during the Civil War by the man who carried it, John G. Borden, who mustered and served in the 150th New York from 10/11/1862 to 4/11/64 when he was discharged for promotion on 4/11/1864. On 4/11/1864 he was commissioned into "D" Co. NY 47th Infantry and discharged for disability on 7/20/1864. While with the 150th, his unit saw action at Gettysburg and in battles about Georgia during the Atlanta Campaign. While in the 47th his unit was at Drewry's Bluff and Cold Harbor. I haven't had time to run Borden's history but this is a beautiful and excellent condition watch of Swiss manufacture and imported during the 1860 period. It runs perfectly and includes its original key. If you like artifacts with Gettysburg history, this is a really good one that could still be carried and used daily if you so desired.
