This is a very fine example of the Colt Civil War rifled musket. Many of these guns found in fine condition are bought by collectors and then cleaned to reveal a real gem. This gun (with excellent wood) is just such an example that had a cleaning process begun, but never completed. The barrel and lock are in very fine, cleaned condition. It actually shows a little patina to the cleaned parts and one wouldn't know that it had ever undergone the process. The mounts however, show some sanding marks that needed to be reduced and then polished. The result will be a very fine condition gun that would approach $2,500.00 in value. If you are a handy person that likes to take on such projects, this is a steal. bands are inspected and the stock shows a bold, proper "NJ" opposite the lock. It was certainly issued to New Jersey troops during the Civil War.
