CIVIL WAR PRESENTATION COLT NAVY REVOLVERS - Lot #0204

A true pair of Navy Revolvers serial numbered 32 digits apart. Both guns are inscribed "To Col. D. H. Williams, by his Phila. Friends. Oct. 22nd, 1861", and are mentioned in an article of the Philadelphia Inquirer on October 29th as being presented the day after their inscription to Colonel Williams during a ceremony and presentation of Regimental colors and grand review on oct. 24TH, 1861. While presenting the arms to Col. Williams on that very day, presenter Col. White remarked in his speech, "These weapons, unlike some newly elected officers, are to be used, not to be looked at; unlike the glorious Stars and Stripes. Traitors have taken the field, and every true patriot should be doubly armed"!!!!! The 82nd went on to 1st Bull Run, Siege of Yorktown, Williamsburg, Bottom's Bridge, Fair Oaks / Seven Pines, Savage Station, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, Chantilly, Antietam, and Fredericksburg. Colonel Williams was nominated for Brigadier General on November 29, 1862. His term of service expired in February of 1863. The 82nd went on to battle in most of the major tests of the war, losing 5 officers and 106 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded. The pair of Colts are in very fine condition showing great care in their handling with sharp edges, markings, action and grips, with generous amounts of original Military style finish. An outstanding historical pair of Navies carried and used by a commanding officer. A 1 1/2 inch folder with Williams' muster sheets and service accompany this pair of revolvers.
