COLT FIRST MODEL DRAGOON REVOLVER, MARTIALLY MARKED - Lot #4456
This is a very good example of a Colt 1st Model Dragoon from the third contract from the US Government to Colt. The first being the famed Walker Revolvers and the second order being for the erroneously referred to "Fluck" Dragoons, now more properly labeled the "Pre-First Model Dragoons". This example has the rare "U.S. Dragoon motif on the cylinder which shows about 90% of its scene with just a small area of roughness to the "U.S." area. The rest of the scene is relatively clear with all characters visible. The gun is in a medium gray patina with some silvered-out case left on the frame and lever. Traces of the cartouches are visible on both sides of the grip panels and the small sub-inspector marks are clear on all proper parts. A gun that was certainly issued and used on the Western Frontier in the 1850's and probably saw action during the Civil War.
