Outstanding, factory engraved and silver plated Colt presentation revolver inscribed, "To Col. W. C. Church With Compliments of Col. Colt". Beautifull, Gustov Young engraving and retaining prox. 90% original factory silver plate. Near mint grips. The case is an aftermarket casing in the French style. The accessories are silver plated. Church was the New York Times war corrospondent to Washington DC and undoubtedly a friend or acquaintance of Colt and/or his representatives. He was an officer early in the war and was brevetted the ranks of Major and Lt. Colonel. He was publisher of "The Army and Navy Journal" after the war as well as Galaxy Magazine which was eventually merged with Atlantic Monthly. He later was co-founder of the National Rifle Association.
