This is a very nice gun that was probably glorious to look at 150 or so years ago. It is beautifully factory engraved in the late vine style and was silver plated with gold washed hammer, cylinder and lever. It now only shows about 25% silver plate, mostly on the right-hand side of the barrel and in protected areas. It has an "E" stamped by each serial number. The gun is still fairly crisp and was never abused. It has little if any roughness or pitting and is in a medium grey patina. Note, this is a RARE, factory engraved gun, not aftermarket New York style engraving. The engraving is well done, fairly crisp, complete and the gun is really nice overall. I believe the grips are aftermarket originals and probably not Colt, but I guarantee that they are original to the period and not some faked-up set with artficial coloring. They are wonderful and probably worth $1500 - 2500.00 on their own. This gun was probably rigged-out with the grips by the dealer that ordered the gun from Colt. They have a near excellent fit. The action was mushy when I came upon this revolver as it had some type of goof-balled mainspring in it. I resolved this problem by searching though my old box of springs and doo-dads and replaced it with a factory original and the action is now excellent. Over-all, this is a very fine example of a rare, Factory Engraved Colt 1860 Army Revolver that probably saw its way to the old west. If you like fine guns with great Ivories, this would really be a find at this price.
