This is a sharp and crisp 3rd Model Colt Dragoon with rare, 8" barrel. It shows generous traces of case-colors to the frame, lever and hammer and traces of blue in protected areas of its barrel. The cylinder scene shows almost all of a crisp Dragoon and Indian fight scene and most of its Model U.S.M.R. and Colt's Patent motif above and below the cylinder serial number. The balance of the gun is dove grey metal and it does have a few small areas of slight roughness and staining, but overall is in very nice condition for this, one of the rarest variations of Dragoons with its extra long barrel. The grips are excellent, retaining most of their original varnish. A very rare gun and certainly a great candidate for those that might be looking to complete a Dragoon collection or would rather have a rare variation as their single big-frame. As many of you know, a large number of these 8" monsters were issued to Southern troops, most notably the "C.L. Dragoons" of Alabama.
