This Pettingil is in exceptional condition, and the finest I have had the opportunity to come across. Although it shows little or no finish, it also shows little to no use and is sharp as a tack. It is in a perfectly untouched, attic mint patina with an excellent cartouche on the left grip. It would be very difficult to find a better one. It is also among the only known group of Pettingills that have identified use. Every gun with definatively known issue falls in the serial range 3244 - 4144, and this gun falls within that range. Every gun in that range that has been identified was issued to Company "M" of the 1st Arkansas Cavalry in 1863 and re-issued to the same unit in 1865. This gun was most certainly issued to the that unit.
