WHITNEY CIVIL WAR NAVY REVOLVER, HOLSTER - Lot #4584

Now here's a really nice find right out of the woods with great potential. This is an absolutely untouched Civil War era Whitney Navy Revolver. The nice thing about it is that it's filthy, but underneath the grit, grime and flash surface rust there lies a very, very good gun. Most of what looks like rust on the gun is actually dried grease. The rust that is present is very superficial and can be cleaned to a smooth surface. I don't see that there are many areas that would reveal pitting or roughness if done properly. The action, markings and edges are sharp and it comes with a decent holster that's been with it forever. The pictures are lousy but if you squint, you can see most of a light cylinder scene. The Whitney was one of the most popular handguns used in the Civil War by Northern and Southern Officers with Robert E. Lee known to have used one. It's not a diamond in the rough, but there's much room for honest improvement with a careful cleaning. It's way better than what you see offered at gun shows and auctions at the same price. The holster is worth $300, so the gun should be considered a bargain.
