WINCHESTER CARBINE, 1866 FACTORY ENGRAVED - Lot #4832

This is a rare and wonderful, factory engraved and untouched 1866 Winchester Carbine in the 130,XXX range. It exhibits similar engraving as found on other models of guns and attributed to famed engraver Gustave Young and is accompanied by a Larry Wilson letter stating such. It is also accompanied a Winchester factory record letter from the Cody Museum that describes the carbine as engraved and nickel plated, order number 5887, entered into the warehouse and shipped May 18, 1876. Young engraved Winchesters are extremely rare. This gun has come to us in absolutely untouched condition with beautiful flame-grained walnut stocks that are near mint with the slightest of handling marks and a few scuffs to the right butt-stock. It does not appear that the wood has ever been removed, front or back. Each side of the frame retains 99% original nickel plating with the slightest frost. The barrel and magazine tube has the same slight frost, with the slightest bit of flaking at the breech with the exposed metal starting to brown. Action, markings and all edges are near mint. An exceptional, untouched and unpolished 1866 Carbine that would be hard to improve upon and worthy of the finest Antique Winchester Collection.
