This is a nearly mint and likely un-issued US oval belt plate as issued during the Civil War to Union Infantrymen. These were issued to most Union Infantry and accompanied with a cap pouch, cartridge box and bayonet on the belt. The condition can only be improved upon by those few examples known to have been found still wrapped in their original packaging. A super nice example.
