This is a very good to nearly fine condition Colt 3rd Model Dragoon for sale, with its original holster. A rare 4-screw, cut for stock variation, this gun is untouched and right out-of-the-woods and to my knowledge has never been in a collection. It came directly from a family that had cared for it since the Civil War but they had no documentation as to any ancestors that served. The gun is extremely sharp and crisp as can be evidenced by its excellent pair of grips (among the best you'll ever see) with great cartouches, traces of original blue on the barrel and a large blotch of bright original case colors on the left side of the frame. It also shows a lot of dense, military style blue on the top of the back-strap. The cylinder scene is deep and crisp with one area of slight roughness that obscures the latter half of the "Colts Patent" motif under the cylinder serial number. This gun shows very little use and was obviously stored in this, its original holster. This is probably why such a minty gun lost all of its finish, the humidity and temperature changes causing condensation inside the leather. Regardless, all markings, edges and action are excellent but it needs a hand and spring. The gun is in a grayish-brown patina with very small spots of brown staining (not pitted). It can possibly be cleaned to enhance its look, but I'll leave that up to the buyer. The holster is an original, pre-1865 holster that is supple, but dry and dusty with the side stitching needing repair. As most of you are aware, the 3rd Model 4-screw Dragoon is a rare variation and this one is fresh to the market, untouched and has a lot of condition.
