COLT FIRST MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER FOR SALE - HISTORICAL ARMS - Lot #4449

Now here's a rare Colt that is seldom offered for sale in any condition. With roughly 1,000 originally manufactured, it is thought by many historians that the First Model 1851 Navy has a survival rate similar to the famed Colt walker Revolver. Characterized by the wedge screw below the wedge instead of above, these first models were in great demand in California in the early 1850's and many turned up in that area when they were re-discovered by collectors after WWII, when gun collecting began its first national popularity. This gun is in good condition with no original finish and in a gray patina over-all. The cylinder shows about 65% weakening scene and the markings, edges and action are good. The grips are full. It is above average for this model, which are often found with replaced or mismatched parts and often times cut barrels. The gun shows use but it has never been abused. A First Model Navy is a must for the Colt Navy Collector and even tougher to find than a cut-for-stock.
