This Tower, 1862 marked Enfield is another gun 'out-of-the-attic. It has never been cleaned or touched in any way and shows dried grease and grime about its entire surface over a heavy brown patina. The gun is solid with a crisp action. It has the number "59" engraved on top of the butt-strap but no JS & Anchor marking. It does have a small "CH" stamped opposite the lock and the marking is absolutely period. I have no doubt that this is a mark used by Caleb Huse to identify a purchased arm.
