CIVIL WAR OFFICERS SWORD, HISTORICALLY INSCRIBED - Lot #be-1

Inscribed to Augustus H. Beecher. This wonderfull sword was presented to Beecher in 1862 by Comapany G of the 137th New York Volunteers prior to his being wounded at Chancellorsville, at Gettysburg, and a third wounding in Tennessee. The 137th was famous for its many actions in the most prominent battles of the Civil War. The silver-plated scabbard is engraved wonderfully, the blade is etched with patriotic motifs including the motto's, " One Flag, One Country " and "Deeds, not Words". The carved ivory grips are spectacular as is the history. The sword shows use and carry, and may have been with Beecher at many of the engagements of the 137th. It retains very fine to excellent condition, and comes with about 5 inches of muster rolls, casualty reports and regimental history. Worthy of the finest museum or personal collection.
