BEAUTIFUL ENGRAVED COLT ROOT REVOLVER OF SAMUEL POMEROY COLT - Lot #4972

The sister gun to the previous lot, this factory engraved Colt Root was the original property of Samuel Pomeroy Colt, nephew of Sam L. Colt, Firearms inventor and Colt Firearms Founder. It was the consecutive lot at auction from the Colt Farm estate in Bristol, R.I.. Samuel Pomeroy Colt, born to Christopher Colt and Theodora DeWolf Colt of Bristol, Rhode Island, and nephew of arms maker Samuel Colt, was an American politician and industrialist. From 1876 to 1879, Colt served in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, where he worked to regulate child labor and advance women's property rights. He was subsequently appointed Attorney General of Rhode Island, serving from 1882 to 1886. In 1886, Colt founded the financial organization, Industrial Trust Company, which became Industrial National Bank, then Fleet Bank, which ultimately merged into Bank of America. In 1888, he formed the United States Rubber Company, later called Uniroyal and the largest rubber company in the nation. Linden Place, his home in Bristol, still exists as a historic house museum. This beautiful and historic Root Revolver retains about 75% original blue and case-hardened finish and has a spectacular set of ivory grips on it. The major parts of the gun are adorned with Gustav Young style scroll engraving as seen in the photos. It should be cased, and the accompanying tags attest to its original ownership, almost as good as an inscription but at half the price. Colt firearms with actual Colt Family pedigree are virtually impossible to find on the open market. Here's a rare chance to own one, and possibly a chance of a lifetime.
