This is a beautiful 1810 to 1820 American Eagle Pommel Sword. While it has a simple reverse P shaped guard the eagle pommel is beautifully cast and chased with a nice smooth blackstrap the terminates in a nicely formed ferrule. The nicely aged but very clean ivory grip is carved in a spiral for two thirds and bounded by a foliate carved band then smooth to the pommel. The languets are wonderfully formed to resemble an Eagle about to take flight and look almost like a Phoenix. The blade is a beautiful blue and gold with military trophies and an American Eagle and Arms on the Obverse. A leather scabbard with wide cut out gilt brass mounts set this sword off in a most handsome manner. All of the brass elements are beautifully gilt with almost all of the original finish remaining. This eagle pommel sword will compliment and indeed stand out in any collection of American Arms.
